IELTS INDIA · WRITING AND SPEAKING PRACTICE

IELTS Writing and Speaking mock practice for Indian test takers

Built for candidates targeting 6.5, 7.0 or a skill-specific requirement. Complete a timed response, review the scoring criteria, and turn the feedback into one clear change for your next attempt.

What should Indian candidates build into their practice?

The scoring criteria remain the same across delivery options. Your preparation should match the way you plan, write, speak and revise under the time limit.

Productive-skill gap

Writing needs focused feedback

In the official 2024–2025 Academic data for Indian nationality, mean Writing was about 6.24 compared with Reading at about 6.94. The data describes performance, not market size or an individual prediction.

Official Speaking format

11–14 minutes, three parts

Speaking assesses fluency and coherence, vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation through an examiner-led three-part test.

IELTS Speaking format

Who is this practice path for?

Use it during a focused preparation period when your target, test date and weakest productive skill are reasonably clear.

1

Band 6 or 6.5 candidates targeting 7

You need to identify the recurring Task Response, organisation, vocabulary or grammar issue that prevents a consistent Band 7 response.

2

Candidates preparing for computer delivery

You want to practise typing, screen-based revision and time control before choosing or sitting the test format shown at your centre.

3

Applicants with a skill-specific requirement

Your overall English is close to the target, but Writing or Speaking still needs a minimum score for study, work or registration.

A three-step feedback loop

A mock becomes useful when it changes the next response, not when it only produces another score.

1. Complete a timed attempt

Write without grammar tools or complete Speaking Parts 1–3 without pausing to search for a polished answer.

2. Review one criterion at a time

Separate relevance, development and organisation from vocabulary, grammar, fluency and pronunciation.

3. Repeat and compare

Rewrite the weakest paragraph or record the same answer again, then check whether the targeted change is visible.

A practical 14-day sprint

No tool can guarantee a band increase in a fixed period. This plan is most useful when you are already close to the requirement.

  1. Days 1–3 · Establish a baseline

Complete one Writing and one Speaking mock. Select the highest-impact issue in each skill.

  2. Days 4–8 · Rewrite and re-record

Alternate skills and repeat answers after feedback instead of switching immediately to new questions.

  3. Days 9–11 · Transfer the improvement

Use new topics while keeping the same improvement target, such as paragraph development or fewer restarts.

  4. Days 12–14 · Full simulations

Complete two new timed mocks and compare criterion-level performance with the baseline.

Writing Better provides estimated practice scores, not official IELTS results. Estimates should be used to track patterns and guide revision, not as a score guarantee.

IELTS practice questions for India

Can I practise both IELTS Writing and Speaking online?

Yes. Use timed Writing responses and recorded Speaking answers, then review the relevant criteria. Online practice supports preparation but does not reproduce every part of an official test centre.

Should I prepare in English or Hindi?

Explanations can be discussed in any language, but your timed answers and most of your scoring vocabulary should be practised in English because the IELTS responses are produced in English.

Is an AI band estimate official?

No. It is a practice estimate. Official IELTS scores can only be issued through the official test and assessment process.

Should I choose typed Writing or Writing on Paper?

Run a full mock in each option available to you and compare completeness, accuracy and revision time. Confirm availability for your test centre before booking.
